the world's biggest anesthesia conference | ND M.D.

15K views · 1w ago · 21:40

First vacation in a long time that has actually felt like a vacation...and it happens to be off the tail of the world's biggest anesthesia conference. It's rare that co-residents get along enough to make such incredible memories together and I'm so thankful for the friends along the way that made this trip one of the best I've had in a long time. San Diego I'll be back for sure.

doctors, do no harm | ND M.D.

26K views · 3w ago · 14:12

As resident physicians, or any healthcare worker who holds on to the stories of care through your own doubt of your abilities, each encounter heals. Sometimes the patient, sometimes you. This video is dedicated to Mr. 8962, a celebrated lawyer, father, grandfather, and husband. May you rest in peace, and may God grant you the most beautiful 18 holes of golf on Heaven’s greatest course, better than Augusta National could ever be.

pediatric anesthesiology as a resident doctor | ND M.D.

53K views · 4w ago · 19:33

Blessed are the children, for whom the kingdom of Heaven belongs to. To absolutely no one's surprise, my heart lies with caring for kids. They teach me so much every day, so why would I not want to learn continuously for the rest of my life. This is one of my senior pediatric anesthesia rotations as a resident doctor, and it has felt like returning home.

OB anesthesia nights as a resident doctor | ND M.D.

67K views · 1mo ago · 23:33

Resident doctors are supposed to be built different....that don't mean that going from a week of days, to nights, back to days, and back to nights isn't good for you. Taking care of laboring women has been one of the most challenging things I have done physically, mentally, and emotionally...all while coming home and attempting to take care of yourself so you can bring a smile to the families celebrating the birth of a little child.

what I wish I could say about being a resident doctor | ND M.D.

46K views · 2mo ago · 22:25

What happened to the resident doctor who had all the big goals? What happened to the resident doctor who had the concerts and international trips lined up? Or to the doctor who looked so happy coming into work every day? Or to that doctor I looked up to that had the amazing supportive partner, new car, and endless energy?

19K views · 4mo ago · 17:58

Somehow I am now half way done with anesthesia residency! Rounding it out with one more 24 hour call and some impulse purchases and travel to celebrate. Taking My (First) Anesthesia Board Exams | ND M.D.

20K views · 4mo ago · 18:05

Well back again with another board exam...this time it is the ABA Basic that all CA-1 anesthesia residents in the country take. Putting life on pause again for a board exam is starting to get really exhausting, especially now that there is no such thing as "dedicated study" time and the next day is just a normal work day. Little bit of an existential crisis near the end.

24 Hours on Call As an Anesthesia Resident | ND M.D.

18K views · 4mo ago · 20:03

Back in the ORs for the first time in over a month and we start it off with a 24 hour call on a holiday. You never know what you are going to get and now that I am almost technically a senior resident, more of the acute cases will start to come to me on call. But those weekends off and post call days are well taken advantage of. Welcome back to another 24 hours on call as an anesthesia resident.

A Day in the Life of a Yale Anesthesiology Resident (Cardiothoracic ICU, Yale Golf Course) | ND M.D.

25K views · 5mo ago · 17:15

Starting my first of two surgical ICU rotations to complete residency, this one being in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit where we are seeing a lot of open heart surgery patient and complex vascular patients often needing mechanical or pharmacologic support for their heart. But also this is a time where I am learning new skills out of the OR (at a golf course that my swing does not deserve to grace) and continuing to decorate the new apartment.

24 Hour Anesthesia Call with No Sleep | ND M.D.

20K views · 6mo ago · 16:55

Guest: No Sleep

After some much needed time off, I got a rude welcome back with a brutal 24 hour call with lots of learning, very sick patients, and not a single minute of sleep. Welcome back I guess to 24 hours on call with an anesthesia resident. Next stop, cardiothoracic ICU

20K views · 6mo ago · 27:32

Life has been busy and balance has been something sought after but not easily found. From trying to get research projects submitted, to welcoming new residents, to moving in the middle of residency...somehow we still try to find time for some celebration of big moments. Oh and BASIC is coming up so idk how I'm going to consistently upload until that's over lol.

What's Liver Transplant Anesthesia Like? | ND M.D.

40K views · 7mo ago · 21:14

One of the most notoriously difficult and dangerous operations is the liver transplant, and liver transplant anesthesia considerations feels like the super bowl of anesthesia. It tests your ultrasound guided access skills, shock management, and emergency preparation all in a grueling 8-10 hour marathon. But prepare well, and you have become a part of a life transforming procedure giving someone a new chance at health.

How Paid Time Off Works as a Resident Doctor (for weddings, life events, etc.) | ND M.D.

17K views · 7mo ago · 22:09

There is no such thing as just "taking PTO" in residency. Wellness is earned, time off must be scheduled, and sleep....well that's the first thing to be sacrificed in order to make the life events that so many other professions easily take a day off for. Life happens, and being in a supportive residency program goes a LONG way in making sure you can see as much life as the busy OR schedule allows you to. But that also means working hard to play hard.
